S4S Tech providing vital food supplies to rural India

The current global pandemic has significantly reduced access to basic necessities. In rural India there is daily pressure to find reliable food supplies.

S4S Technologies installs solar powered dehydrators at farm level to convert fruit and vegetables into dehydrated products. Operating across the entire value chain, S4S significantly reduces post-harvest loss and assures that revenue is generated for farmers. Shell Foundation has supported S4S Technologies since 2018 with co-funding from the UK Government as part of the POWERED programme.

Teaming up with their long-term partner Savitribai Phule Mahila Ekatma Samaj Mandal (SPMESM), S4S has reduced the risks of rural families going hungry.  The collaboration has allowed emergency response teams to distribute live-saving ‘Sun Ration kits’ that consist of dehydrated carrot, french-beans and instant sprouted moong. The kit also includes immune-boosting foods, ginger and turmeric, providing families with a wholesome, nutritious and diverse diet sufficient for one month.

S4S’s partnership with SPMESM is a great example of how collaboration can strengthen Covid-19 relief efforts, providing vital ration kits to those in need. It is inspiring to see our portfolio responding to issues heightened by the crisis in such timely and innovative ways.
